CM 101
Public Speaking

Focuses on the development of skills in the writing and presenting of various types of speeches. Students will practice and deliver extemporaneous, impromptu, and special occasion speeches with the goals to inform, persuade, and entertain audiences. Three credits. (10 Nov 2006)

CM 115
Interpersonal Communications

This course emphasizes a connection between theory and practice to comprehensively view the concepts and research in dyadic interpersonal communication. Students improve upon a wide range of interpersonal skills to apply these to personal, social, and workplace relationships. In addition, issues of cultural diversity, ethics, technology, and power are covered. Fall semester. Three credits. (10 Nov 2006)

Intercultural Communications

This course emphasizes a connection between communication theory and practice in multicultural contexts. Spring semester. Three credits. (10 Nov 2006)

Small Group Communication

This course critically examines theories, research, and case studies of small group and team communication. Students engage in exercises that help them to move from theoretical discussions into application and experience of the concepts presented. Prerequisite: CM 101. Spring semester. Three credits. CM 260
Professional Communication

This course focuses on practice in effective speaking and writing within the contexts of business and the professions. Prerequisite: CM business and the professions. Prerequisite: CM 101. Three credits. (10 Nov 2006)

CM 310
Conflict Resolution and Negotiation

Conflict is viewed as inevitable and mainly productive in this course. Students will examine definitions of conflict and develop knowledge and skills to recognize and manage conflict. Through theory, case studies, and practice, students will be given the opportunity to understand conflict in various contexts, for example, within themselves, in relationships, and in organizations. CM 390
Organizational Communication

This course explores the connections between organizing and communication. Organizational communication will be introduced to students at philosophical, theoretical, and practical levels through discussions, papers, oral presentations, and group projects. Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to, supervisor-employee communication, networks, leadership, power, organizational cultures, and diversity in organizational processes. Prerequisite: CM 260. Three credits. (10 Nov 2006)

CM 401
Senior Level Business Communications Internship

Seniors will perform 120 hours of supervised and approved internship experience in an external setting through the course of one semester. Students will be required to keep a daily working journal, write several short papers, and participate in a final presentation. Prerequisites: senior status, site approval, and 15 credits of courses in the field of business or communications as appropriate. Three credits. (10 Nov 2006)

CM 402
Special Topics

Rotates concepts covering various aspects of communications that build upon and extend ideas addressed in the existing communications courses. Topics will vary but may included communication in the media, psychology of advertising, gender differences in communication, and the politics of communication.
