Below is a list of Interdisciplinary Studies courses offered by Stevenson University. To earn a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, students must also complete coursework in other areas. INDSC 224
Introduction to Research Methods

Students develop research skills using library resources and observational techniques. Emphasis is on formulating questions, developing search and data-gathering strategies, and presenting qualitative analyses. In addition to examining and summarizing journal articles, and accessing electronic databases, each student will design a research proposal on a social/behavioral science topic of his or her choice. Prerequisite: Sophomore status and one of the following: FAM 101, PSY 101 or SOC 101, or permission of the Interdisciplinary Studies program coordinator. Three credits. Junior Internship

Internships are credited opportunities for career-related work experience in a student's area of study. Internships are arranged on an individual basis to match students' career goals and interests with employers' needs. The Office of Cooperative Education is available for assistance in locating internships. Internships require a minimum of 120 hours at the employer's site plus an internship journal and written work evaluating the position and experience. In most cases a faculty member will supervise the internship. Students should arrange their internship prior to registering for the semester. Grading is pass/fail. Internships may or not be paid, depending upon employer policy. Prerequisite: Junior year status. Other prerequisites may apply. Topics in Interdisciplinary Studies

Examines selected issues or themes that can be approached from at least two academic disciplines. Rotating topics may be developed within the following categories: social phenomena and events, ideas and applications, or area studies. Seminar on Interdisciplinary Studies

This seminar supports research-based projects presented by Interdisciplinary Studies majors in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the bachelor's degree. Each senior investigates a special interest or problem incorporating selected approaches and perspectives of the core disciplines of his or her unique interdisciplinary program. Prerequisite: Senior status; permission of program coordinator. Three credits. (17 Nov 2006)
