Dr. Christine Markut holds a bachelor's in nursing from Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven and earned a master's degree in nursing from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD with a concentration in Medical-Surgical Nursing Education. She is doctorally prepared in nursing, earning a Doctor of Nursing Science (DNSc) degree from The Catholic University of Merica, Washington, DC. She holds national certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Dr. Markut held a post-doctoral fellowship at The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), New York, New York.
Dr. Markut has taught nursing in various professional positions such as teaching in staff education, associate degree nursing education, Registered Nurse Refresher courses and baccalaureate nursing education. Her clinical specialty areas include diabetes, immune and connective tissue diseases, renal, liver and gastrointestinal diseases, critical care and emergency nursing.
Dr. Markut has a variety of clinical experiences in medical-surgical nursing, including critical care, nursing research and home care. Clinical practice areas include Yale-New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT and The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD.
Dr. Markut's dissertation research was a quantitative study entitled Effects of Nonprocedural Touch and Relaxation Training on the Psychophysicalogical Stress Level of Patients Undergoing Cardiac Catheterization. Additional nursing research experience includes studies investigating the use of latex gloves, infection control in day care homes, relaxation techniques, music therapy, adaption in acquired immune deficiency patients, and the use of touch.
Recent publications in referenced nursing journals include articles concerning infection control, latex gloves, nonprocedural touch and nursing accreditation. She has presented at national conferences concerning accreditation of all types of nursing programs.
Dr. Markut is active as a masters and baccalaureate nursing program evaluator for the NLNAC. Additionally, she is a member of the NLNAC's Masters and Baccalaureate Degree Evaluation Review Panel and the Joint Associate Degree and Masters and Baccalaureate Degree Evaluation Review Panel.
Dr. Markut is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, Kappa Chapter, The American Association of Diabetes Educators, Council for the Advancement of Diabetes Education and Research, National League for Nursing and Maryland Nurse's Association.
