EDUCATION

Hillary Michaud became chair of the department in 2005. Professor Michaud has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She worked as a certified public accountant with an international accounting firm prior to attending law school.
Professor Michaud obtained a Juris Doctorate with Honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, where she was an editor of the school's law journal. She practiced law for more than ten years as in-house counsel to The Coca-Cola Company at its world headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, and at its Nordic Division headquarters in Oslo, Norway. She has also practiced law for Baltimore City law firms and in the Baltimore City Solicitor's Office. Continuing to practice law part-time, Professor Michaud conducts administrative hearings for the Baltimore City Health Department.
Professor Michaud taught as an adjunct professor at VJC and another institution before joining VJC's faculty full-time in 2005. Introduction to Legal Studies, Torts, Intellectual Property Law, Business Law and the Law Clinic are among the regular courses she teaches. She is to be an active member of the Maryland State Bar Association and the State Bar of Georgia. Professor Michaud serves on the Maryland State Bar Association's Special Committee on Paralegals.
