William J. Thomas received his master's degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he wrote a thesis on Maryland politics in the 1960s.
At Villa Julie College, Mr. Thompson has taught courses in World Civilization, Western Civilization, and United States History since 1945. He has also taught courses in American History and Western Civilization at several area colleges, including the Community College of Baltimore County and UMBC.
Mr. Thompson has published essays on African-American Civil Rights, the New Deal and World War II, and American Sports in several encyclopedia collections, as well as contributing op-ed pieces to the Baltimore Sun, Washington Post, and Northeast Reporter.
He is presently working on a biography of former Maryland governor and Baltimore mayor Theodore R. McKeldin. Mr. Thompson's historical interests include recent U.S. political history, Baltimore and Maryland history, and sports history.
As a teacher, Mr. Thompson believes students, upon completing his history classes should, along with earning a grade on a transcript, be able to say that they learned something new and/or interesting, which they can carry with them throughout life.
