Circus Flora

In July of 2006, Exsul Van Helden, Associate Professor of Film, Video and Theatre, traveled to Nantucket to film about 10 hours of footage at Circus Flora. Circus Flora is a nonprofit theater company specializing in a one-ring European styled circus. The footage is being edited by Exsul and several film students at the College. The grant-funded project, sponsored by Villa Julie, will result in a one-hour documentary.

The documentary is in cinema verité style and shows the reality of the "backlot" life of circus performers in comparison to the lively rhythm of their circus performances. Once finished, the film will be distributed, free of cost, to public schools and colleges in the United States.
